Social Security Reform (2008-2011)

This research project investigates social security reforms in the light of changing societal circumstances, such as internationalisation, individualisation and ageing of the population. This part of the project relates to the influence of Europe on social security and aims at answering the following questions: How to spread the responsibility for social security between national and supranational levels. Is this being handled in the most effective way? Are the national systems converging towards a European social security system? Or are the developments moving in the direction of injurious forms of policy competition, whereby protection levels come under pressure (a 'race to the bottom')?
